According to Twitter, this change has been a long time coming, and addresses user behavior statistics that showed that offering greater character length encourages more tweeting and a higher level of engagement. For health care brands, this change represents an important opportunity to share more in-depth messages, and also enables branded Twitter handles to include more safety information (or links) as required. In many ways, more space offers more opportunity for creativity and flexibility. But never forget the golden rule of social media—just because you can do something, that doesn't mean you should. Focus on conveying each message in a clear, concise, simple way versus filling up character space. When in doubt, less is more.
